A Vintage Touch
They may not be bringing back disco or flares, but this is one cameo you won’t want to miss. Miss Vintage, that is. Miss Vintage is a rock band based in Philadelphia, Penn. The band is comprised of Jason Min (lead guitarist/vocals), Joe Chai (guitarist/vocals), Colin Leaman (bassist) and Brian Skulski (drummer).
Last Wednesday, January 24, Miss Vintage played a gig at T.T. the Bear’s. They performed five songs from their debut album, Runways: All That’s Left, The Roadie, Marry Annette, The Last Time We Cried and their closing number, Temporary Like Me. True to form, these guys have a passionate energy and adorkable charisma that is as yet untainted by the industry’s cynicism. They also happen to have a quirky, trippy sound that lends itself well to indie film soundtracks.
I got to catch up with three of the band members in the back “green room.” We chatted about everything from mixing drugs with pleasure (you’ll see what I mean…) to Kollaboration and everything in between.
Sarah Ip: Hi, guys. Could you tell us a little about yourself - where you’re all from and how you guys met?
Jason Min: I met these guys in Philly. Me and the guitarist [Joe Chai] are from California. We played at a local church together. We met the other guys later on. They’re from Philly. Read more

Miss Vintage, an all Asian American rock band from Philadelphia, PA, is doing a special show at T. T. the Bear’s Place (that is a funny name for a club) on January 23, 2008 at 8:30 pm. T. T.’s can be found at 10 Brookline Street in Cambridge, MA near Central Square. It’s right next to the Middle East. The show is for 18+ folks and has a cover of $7. They’re playing with Roland High Life, Red Red Rockit, and Beats & Sources.
Comments are off for this postAnyone Can Play Guitar
But some people can play it a lot better. Another week has passed and we’ve got more music from new artists. I know that BPR is pretty hip hop centric, so this week, I’ve tried to get music that isn’t of that genre.
We’ve got a couple of new tracks from Dawn Xiana Moon. She’s originally from Singapore where she developed her skills and talents as a classical musician. Shortly after coming to the United State for her college studies, she picked up the guitar and began to write her own music. She describes her own music as “melodic folk pop.” We’ve put up three tracks from her and soon, we might even have a chat interview.
Also new on the station is music from a New York City band called Misha. We’ve actually been playing tracks from their new album Teardrop Sweetheart which dropped on June 19. The best way to describe their music is indie electronica. Some of their tracks are pretty catchy, other tracks are just, well, different… It is definitely not hip hop though.
To balance out the experimental pop, I’ve dropped in some tracks from Miss Vintage, an indie rock band from Philly. They just released their debut album, Runways. I think their lead singer, Jason Min, sounds like a deeper voiced Thom Yorke. You indie rock heads go listen for yourself and tell me what you think.
We’ve also got some new music from the 6-piece SoCal band Thomas’ Apartment who just released their second album, Synchrony. They are currently touring up and down Northern and Southern California showcasing their “hard-driving riffs, euphoric melodies, and serious lyrical depth.”
That’s this week’s new music. Hopefully, we will continually bring new and exciting music from talented independent Asian American artists from our computer to yours.
