Volunteering

Boston Progress Radio is a community, non-profit organization run completely by volunteers. Our mission is to build a space for Asian American artists to share their work, to offer their perspectives, and to reflect on what connects us, what moves us, what powers us.

There are many ways that you can get involved with BPR. You do not need to have any particular set of skills to become involved. What is important is that you have an opinion on music or art that you want to share and a belief that we are doing something worthy. Here is a list of possible ways that you can help.

  • Write articles for the blog. Since the focus of the blog is Asian American art and music, your articles should be related to that subject. Examples of possible topics include: CD reviews, recaps of live events, or an opinion piece about a particular event or artist. You could even start your own column!
  • Help update website. When we get a new artist, we need to update the “Artists Played on BPR” page. That page can be expanded to include more information including where the artist is from, what kind of music they make, etc.
  • Conduct interviews of artists in real life, over the phone, or through chat. If you are interested in interviewing, we can put you in touch with various artists that we have connections with. Conducting an interview would also involve preparation time to learn about the artist, preparing questions and writing up an article or editing a podcast.
  • DJ live shows. Currently, we do not have a setup that can be used for hosting live shows over our station. However, that is part of our future plans. If you think you might be interested in hosting an online show, let us know.
  • Help record live music events. Some experience with digital audio workstations (DAW), digital audio editors, and audio recording and PA systems is a plus. This particular task would require 3 h for setup and recording and 2 h of post-production.
  • Technical support for the radio station. In order to assist in this task, familiarity with the GNU/Linux operating system is a must. Technical support would include maintenance of the radio server, play list management, installation of new software, etc.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities or if you have your own ideas on how you might contribute, please contact us at info@bprlive.org.
