FAQ

What is Boston Progress Radio?

Boston Progress Radio or BPR is an Internet stream that tries to give a voice to independent Asian American musicians and spoken word artists. Read more about our mission on our About BPR page.

What or who is Asian American?

This is a difficult question to answer. The Asian American label can and should apply to people of various ethnic backgrounds. We’re not going to be able to answer this question. Instead, we invite you to tell us what Asian American means. Note that while we focus on providing a voice for independent Asian American artists, if you believe that your music will appeal to our audience, please do not hesitate to submit your music.

I like the concept and idea behind BPR. Is there anything I can do to help?

Yes! We welcome anybody with an interest in independent music to join BPR. Here is a list of volunteering opportunities. If you are interested in web design, blogging about indie Asian American music, writing CD reviews, reporting on news that is relevant to our community, creating podcasts for BPR, or seeking out new artists for our station, please contact us at info@bprlive.org

I’m an artist/musician/emcee, how do I get my music on BPR?

Please read Getting Your Music on BPR for more information.

As an artist/band/composer, will I be contacted if my music is played?

BPR is a non-profit, volunteer-based project. At this point in time, we do not have enough resources and manpower to be able to contact artists when their music is being played.

My lyrics contain profanity, is that a problem?

No, as long as the profanity is not used in a derogatory or offensive manner. BPR respects the free speech rights of all individuals and community groups.

Who needs to sign the BPR Agreement Form?

Anyone and everyone who wants to allow BPR to play their music. Specifically, anyone who holds copyright to the musical composition or the sound recording must release their music to us. This may include, but is not limited to lyricists, composers, publishing companies, and/or recording labels. Boston Progress Radio exists primarily to increase the exposure of independent Asian American artists; we are not looking to use any of the music for commercial purposes.

Can I submit my music via email?

We’d prefer if you could get a copy of your music via an audio CD. While we can accept music submitted via e-mail, it is less convenient for us to process. Musicians and composers should submit an audio CD along with an agreement form. Please read the document Getting Your Music on BPR for more information.
