“Help! I need somebody!”

I’m getting married this year, and now that our wedding date is fast approaching, there are some concrete tasks that we’ve started working on.  Yippee!!

One that we were recently talking about is finding passages to have read at our wedding ceremony.  We’d like to include the voices and words and talents of folks from the API* community… but, those aren’t as easy to find as you know, that 1st Corinthians passage (yes, I googled it) about how love is patient and all that, or any bits from Shakespeare, or you know, the Beatles.

Ironically, that very night, I read a passage from Lac Su’s “I love yous are for white people.”  And, well, it was definitely a passage about love, but it was definitely not quite wedding ceremony material.

Are there any readings/poems/lyrics by Asian Americans that you think would be great for a wedding ceremony?  Won’t you please, please help me?

I thought about this on and off for several days, considering the various Asian Am authors I’ve read like Lan Samantha Chang and Gail Tsukiyama, but among the quotes I’ve jotted down from their books, I didn’t come across any that seemed really appropriate for the occasion…

@j. lizzles, I feel like you’d have some leads on this… or maybe one of us could ask who you so affectionately referred to as “Ms. Awesome”

But there are some great songs about love by API* artists—my faves are “Second Skin” by Alfa and “Seranade” by Cast of Thousands.

    I’ll keep thinking about this…

    Hey Delia,
Just saw this post. Have you looked at “On A Bed of Rice: An Asian American Erotic Feast”, edited by Geraldine Kudaka? Several authors are in it, writing about love, not all totally erotic. Otherwise, maybe some of us poet friends of yours will just have to write ya’ll some! :-) miss ya’ll much. xoxo
