The Humberville Poetry Slam
Here’s a new flick that you ought to go see if you get a chance. The Humberville Poetry Slam, a movie co-produced by Emily Chang of 2 Tongues fame, Dan De Lorenzo, and Shilpi Gupta. From the website, here’s a brief synopsis of the film:
THE HUMBERVILLE POETRY SLAM is a short mockumentary film about a small town’s efforts to build a team for the National Poetry Slam. When Liberty Fu, an experienced poet, sets his sights on victory at Nationals, he decides to organize a local slam to find four poets who will help him represent the town and capture the title of Slam Champions. What he finds is an oddball cast of Humberville locals more than willing to unleash their poetic talents on stage.
It’s supposed to be comical, so you just might laugh. And, our friend Giles Li stars as Liberty Fu. Supposedly, he’s a parody of a real-life spoken word artist. Who could it be? The movie will be screened on Saturday, March 12, 2009 at the 27th San Francisco Asian American Film Festival. Go out and support this film. Here’s the trailer:
And if that isn’t enough, check out this clip. If you’re at work, you might not want to watch it, cause you might laugh out loud and people will look at you funny. Especially laugh at Liberty. I mean, with Liberty. (What kind of messed up name is that? It’s almost as wack as Chad Ocho Cinco.)

i took a weekend trip to NYC a year ago and did it. i think they shot a bunch more stuff with the real actors after i left.
it’s been accepted to three festivals so far, but they’re all out west. we’ll see if it makes it to the east coast or what…
