A Song for Ourselves

ASFOmixtape_cover Check out DJ Phatrick’s “A Song for Ourselves” mixtape, downloadable for free over at www.asongforourselves.blogspot.com.  It’s a pretty cool mix of original performances by Chris Iijima, Nobuko Miyamoto, and Charlie Chin, and other familiar names like Bambu, Kiwi, and Blue Scholars.

The mixtape goes along with the premier of the film “A Song for Ourselves” which documents the Asian American movement through the story of Chris Iijima.  If you’re lucky enough to be in the LA area, the premier is on February 28.

It’s all pretty inspirational stuff.  I just listened to the mixtape myself, and it kinda reminded me how important it is to know about the past and who has come before us.  The mixtape pulls it all together.

And here’s the trailer for the film. Cool stuff.

i’m wicked excited about this film. chris iijima is truly an inspiration.

i’m hoping someone in boston will bring this flick and tad the director out here for a screening.

chris iijima used to live in massachusetts in fact, so in a way he’s a spiritual forefather to boston progress.

We would love to have Tad and the film come out to DC, where we’re slowly building a conscious community to support the local community…
