East Meets Words featuring Sophia Moon

January 9, 2009
8:00 pmto10:30 pm

Happy New Year! It is time for another East Meets Words open mic. This month’s feature is a local artist by the name of Sophia Moon.

Sophia Moon aka Ailah was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She started singing at the age of 10 and writing original songs at the age of 13. Since 2003 she has since written and recorded dozens of mainstream pop/r&b songs and has continued to fine tune her art. Sophia’s creative objective is to combine the sounds of mainstream music with catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics. She is currently balancing her solo career as a singer/songwriter and as a lead singer and featured writer for the up and coming pop group, Girls Nite Out.

ailah2 So, here’s a funny little story. Back in December 2008, I went to the Second Annual Charles Hotel Ice Rink opening along with Delia of BPR and Emily Lawsin. It was a frigid day, and we pretty much huddled inside drinking hot chocolate and hot tea. The featured performer was Girls Nite Out. At the time, I didn’t know that Sophia Moon was a member of the band. I do, however, recall what Emily said, “I don’t know much about the band, but hey there is an Asian girl in the group.” Small world.

January is probably going to be cold, but East Meets Words is going to be FIRE. Mosey on down to 934 Massachusetts Avenue, in Cambridge, MA. Bring 3 Sacagawea’s and maybe something to share. As always the open mic is open to all ages.
