Two Warriors Bring Peace and Love to East Meets Words

The Two Warriors rolled into town last Friday and they killed it. They filled the store with incredible stories about love, about peace, about poetry. In our hot little bookstore on a summer night in Boston, Mark and Harry brought their passionate voices and uplifting words.
Giles started the night off with a piece about basketball and family. Next up were several people new to the open mic. I am grateful to Febo for bringing his youth group from UTec (United Teen Equity Center) to share their words. Luis, Junior, Jose, Christian, thanks for sharing your poetry. Getting up and sharing a piece is always difficult, but this group was as smooth as any.
Next up, was Dave, who showcased his beatbox-ing skillz. I’ve included a clip of his performance at the end of this blog entry. When I showed this clip to a colleague at work, he was totally amazed. His reaction: “How is he making those sounds in parallel?” Indeed, how!?
Right after, MC Papadapolus Victor stepped up and did a group piece with beatboxing Dave. He played his usual game of “hold something that you have into the air and I’ll use it in my freestyle.” I think I threw him off when I held up the toilet paper rolls. Cause he had to stop his flow. Isn’t that something? When you can stop an emcee mid-flow?
After Victor, Two Warriors stepped up and performed five amazing pieces. Leading things off with their signature piece “Two Warriors,” they kept the crowd excited and involved throughout the entire set. I think their favorite topic is relationships. That’s good ’cause everybody wants to talk about relationships. [See recent article by Giles.]
So see you all in August. We got another fine open mic comin’ up! And lastly, as promised, here’s a little video of Dave on the beatbox. I was thinking of putting up a little video of the Two Warriors, but no video can capture the energy they brought to the store. Enjoy!

It is something to stop an emcee midflow, because emcees always rappin rappin rappin. Especially Popadop, when I first met him, he would hold conversations in freestyle, and i would be like “hey man not everything is hip hop.”
Altho i gotta say Pop was sharp this past open mic. Sharp.
I know that this isn’t completely related, but on the drive over to the open mic, my daughter and I were listening to Magnetic North… and she said, “hey, this sounds like the open mic!”
She was like in awe to watch Dave and Victor.
