Hollywood?
Look.
I don’t know much about celebrity culture. I have heard many many rumors about this or that Hollywood star being something different from how they present themselves. And we know many of them try to present themselves as progressive, but when their political points of view come out in interviews or whatnot, they are rarely more radical than “We should all get along.” You know, it’s nice, but it hardly requires thought.
So imagine my surprise when I read the recent Interview magazine interview (that feels weird to type, but it’s correct) with Eva Mendes.
She talks about racial assumptions in Hollywood and goes on to say:
Now, I want to see more Asian girls. People ask me if it’s difficult being Cuban-American in this industry. I say, “You know what? Not as difficult as it is being an Asian girl.” We have so many Asian girls in this country, and they’re so not represented up on the screen.
Now I’m not one to put much stock in mainstream Hollywood movies and whatnot, but it’s nice to see someone say something specific about the state of the industry, rather than relying on buzzwords.

I think I’m having trouble figuring out who actually said this.
That because I am an idiot and forgot write that it was Eva Mendes. Anyway, that error has been corrected.
I peeped part of the rest of the interview. I have to say that I have a secret crush for Eva. What about the Asian dudes?
This reminds me of the time I was asked the question: who are 5 folks in Hollywood that you have a crush on?
I didn’t know Eva Mendez was Cuban.
BTW, I love this blog – I read it all the time but get too chicken to comment sometimes.
Thanks for commenting. We love comments, so please don’t be shy.
