Blog Party

In my eyes, a blog is like a lemon. From the outside, they pretty much all look the same. On the inside, they are all still pretty much the same too. Sour as hell. Some might be a little sweeter, but in general, it’s not the main course. You know, just like a slice of lemon on its own is wack, a slice of lemon with a Diet Coke or a lobster or even ice water is great. And so it is with blogs. The best way to keep up with them is when you should be doing other things: working, writing a paper, or building robots (Eugene).

So today it’s a blog party. Which I guess is something like a Lemon Party. And that is where the analogy ends.

Below, some of the best blogs from across the Internets from some of my favorite API folks on the scene.

FOBBDeep: Fear of a Brown Blogger is captained by Ninoy Brown, and holds up reflections on API issues, hip hop, and history, and how all those things relate to the Bay. Not for Yay heads only though, just like we here at BPR don’t only rep for Boston. This is first on the list because it’s the only one here where the blogger is known primarily as a blogger. Click the link and show love.

Prometheus Brown, aka Geologic, is the rhyming half of ill hip hop duo Blue Scholars. So you know how Kanye West has a blog about all the fresh gear he has bought and wants to buy? This is like the opposite.

Siddhartha Mitter is a music writer (although not exclusively), for the Boston Globe. This “blog” is actually more like a collection of his writings for wherever he’s written them for. Excellent reading.

Miss Info is a well-known and trusted source for breaking hip hop news. But more recently she posted a superb entry entitled “Fuck You Sharon Stone,” which is just transcendent: the anger and sarcasm really almost move it from blog entry to work of art.

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop is the blog of Jeff Chang, author of the book of the same name. I was actually supposed to write a review of the book when it came out to go on the Asian American Movement Ezine, but the book is so informative and well-conceived, that writing a review was too daunting of a task for me (sorry Mike). So here is my very delayed review: READ THAT BOOK! (But until then, read his blog.)

Soul Sides is maybe - I’m guessing - the most widely-read one on this list. O-Dub - who was once the target of beef from Jean Grae - has a super diverse taste in scope of music, and an understanding of history to match it. I’m wondering how many other music blogs have actually released albums?
