Congrats, folks. Boston gets much respect from me, for really holding it down on the east coast. There hasn’t been a consistent space like this in NYC since the AAWW moved from St. Marks Place.

The open mic and all the speakers from the stalwarts to the newcomers all have inspired me. Thanks for being there for me East Meets Words, I hope this relationship continues for a long long time…

i would like to point out that the exception – the one month we didn’t hold open mic on the second friday, was the month we hosted the spoken word summit, and instead we held the community showcase the week after.

i have a confession – the first time i came to the open mic, i thought the bookstore would be bigger – i actually thought that maybe the buddhist cultural center down the street was the bookstore as i cruised around looking for parking.

when i did find it, i felt immediately welcomed and included. my first open mic was august 2006. at that point i didn’t know anyone in boston progress. and now, just look.

ohhh yeah.
