Exit Clov comes to Cambridge
On Sunday night (11/4), Boston Progress brought out alt-rock band Exit Clov for a cozy performance in one of Harvard Square’s historic buildings. And they played the roof off.
Maybe it was the intimacy of the space, or maybe because it was a BPAC production, or maybe it was the leftover wine I steadily sipped from the plastic cup I carried with me through setup, performance, and take down of the show—the band delivered a technically complex, and sonically awesome set.
The show was slated to begin at 8, but actual start time went a little later. 30 or so folks milled around the building looking at boston progress and exit clov merch while the musicians tuned up. At about 8:30 and everyone filed into the studio for the show. Boston singer/songwriter Eli Kao opened the night with some melodic songs and nifty guitar effects.
Then Exit Clov came out and rocked the house.
If you’ve listened to the BPR stream a few times, you’ve probably heard their music. I expected they’d be soft, electronic, sway-back-and-forth type music from the tracks I heard. Not that night. Their live show is a multi-instrument wielding, cymbal crashing, propane-tank playing, audio spectacle. And a blast to watch.
You can watch them too (and you really should). Check their tour schedule at their site, and look out for the post-show interview with frontwomen Emily and Suz coming soon.
Thanks goes out to all the members of the band, to Eli, and to all the folks that spent their Sunday night with us at the show. Let’s do it again soon.

Jinah Kim is the December East Meets Words Open Mic feature. Sponsored by the Boston Progress Arts Collective, this all ages show is going to go down at the East Meets West Bookstore.
If you were to take a look at Jinah’s passport, it would look absolutely ridiculous. The mileage on her car is even more ridiculous. In the past year, she has traveled through nine different countries and driven across the U.S. three times. This might account for why she is both exhausted and yet so frickin’ PUMPED to finally be…. stationary… at least for the next eight months before Tufts University, where she is a senior, thrusts her into the throes of life.
Apparently, she hates writing about herself in the third person.
Come see Jinah. Bring $3 and your friends.

No commentsFood is Love
If food is love, and love is political, then food must be political, right?
So, I’ve started buying those little rice snacks from Trader Joe’s - the ones that come in all different shapes, with the wasabi-flavored crackers, the little flower shaped crackers, and the seaweed wrapped crackers. My daughter asked me what they were called. I told her that they were called “Rice Crackers.” Which was a half-truth. They were called “Oriental Rice Crackers.” My daughter asked me how you spell the name… and I started spelling R-I-C-E… then she stopped me, “NO! There’s an O.”
Eh.

Justine is an r&b singer songwriter who’s got a *wicked* set of pipes. She’s also part of the group Xtacy Xport. If you haven’t heard her on the stream, you can check her out at her site www.simplyjustine.com. I sat down with her after her set at the EMW open mic last month for a little jibba jabba.
