Playlist additions

So according to my calendar, we’ve been playing tunes on our streaming radio for a little over a month now. So far, Boston Progress Radio has been doing well; we’ve been getting music from artists all over the United States. Without their help, BPR would be non-existent. So thank you. I always feel extraordinarily grateful when artists give us music to play. The funny thing is, the artists I’ve spoken to invariably thank us for their support. I suppose we have a mutually beneficial symbiosis. Kind of like the clownfish and the sea anemones?

Speaking of artists, we have new music from three artists today. We’re playing some music off Kite Operations‘ new release Heart Attacks: Back to Back. We’ve mentioned this album before, but we’ve only just got their music now. Many thanks to K.O.A. Records for furnishing us with their latest release. Since the LMNOP review by babysue, others have also reviewed the album:

“feedback is the lifeblood and accoutrements of Kite Operation’s muscial corporeality… a post-rock canopy of soaring guitar work” - Coke Machine Glow… “an intriguing and brainy exercise in post-modern indie rock… Kite Operations is seemingly unafraid of writing truly interesting songs and not just pop fodder.” - Smother Magazine

Uh yeah… we think so too.

We’ve also got music from two bands that we haven’t talked about before. A local band from the Boston area, Forget the Girl, just released their first CD entitled Walk Around In Your Head. They already had their CD release party I believe. According to their myspace page:

The songs speak about deeper issues of despair, fear, hope, and at the appropriate times, simply come alongside someone to let them know they are not alone. “It’s not just about the music,” insists Mike, “it’s about what the music is pointing to. That’s what all good art does.”

Okay. That’s cool. Listen in.

Last, but not least, we have music from singer-songwriter Benny Mao, who hails from Los Angeles, California. He plays acoustic guitar. According to him:

He grew up in New Orleans, but moved to LA to go to U-C-L-A. [Editor's Note: You don't know how much that hurts a Husky to say.] The music and lyrics come out of the comedy and angst of his life. And his adventures in Shanghai.

That’s all for now. We got some more dope music coming up. Tune in and continue supporting BPR and all independent Asian American artists. And many thanks to Benny Mao and Thomas Chan for sending us their CDs.

Oh, and I almost forget. We’ve replaced Magnetic North’s Drift Away with a new piece they made called Within the Rhythm. It’s a long story, but hell the new song is every bit as good as the old. Oh yeah, and you still can get copies of the original Magnetic North release at the East Meets West bookstore.
